FENGSHENG TEMPLE

  

 

 

Early settlers in Daan are originally from Zhangzhou, Fujian and share the same religions and customs as southern Fujianese. Local residents worship Xuanwu god, Qingshui and Nezha.
 

Among the statues of aforementioned gods, the Xuanwu and the Nezha were sculptureded in mainland china. it is believed that the Xuanwu statue was brought to Daan from Pinghe County in Fujian aroung late 1600’s by a Hakka camphor oil distillation worker. The statue was left behind as the Hakka worker failed to pack it along. A Daan resident, fan, found it and had it settled in the village since.


The nezha was brought to Daan by a Fuxingliao resident, Xiao; the Qingshui statue, a division from Dinglin, was brought to Daan in 1917 and is believed very much efficacious on treating diseases and expelling bad spirits. In early days, these three statues were worshipped in volunteers’ houses until Fengsheng Temple was built in 1993. since, Fengsheng Temple carry the long religious tradition in Daan and become the religious center for all residents.
